Network Update: August 18, 2023
Our Network and Emergency Management Teams have fully restored coverage and are now working to deploy more microwave connectivity which will further improve data. We have two COWs in place to provide temporary coverage where a tower was damaged by the fires.
Our teams are continuing to set up Starlink equipment generously donated by SpaceX, including at Royal Kahana Maui, the Kaanapali Beach Club, and the Lahaina Gateway National Guard Post.
Network Update: August 16, 2023
mobile365 teams are working to get crucial connectivity restored on Maui. Here’s the latest:
- Our site at Napili-Honokowai is now fully restored and providing its usual talk, text and high-speed data. We expect our site at Kapalua to be fully restored by the end of the day.
- All impacted sites have restored connectivity with the exception of one that serves the town of Lahaina that was damaged by the fires. As a temporary solution, the town of Lahaina is now receiving service from a COW (Cell on Wheels) – a portable cell site – placed at the Lahaina Gateway Center.
- We’re giving first responders activated phones and Wireless Priority Service to help ensure emergency communications move to the front of the line during times of high traffic.
- We’re setting up free Wi-Fi with Starlink routers, generously donated by SpaceX, to provide free high-speed data at:Kapalua Airport to support ticketing and ground crewsHyatt Regency Maui to help Kaiser Permanente’s medical and mental health providers keep track of patients and access records
- In Maluhia at housing for American Red Cross staff and volunteers
Network Update: August 15, 2023
mobile365’s Emergency Management Team has rapidly worked to restore every site that we have access to or that wasn’t damaged, including all sites north of Lahaina on Maui’s west coast from Kaanapali to Kapalua. This ensures that a majority of customers will have the service they need. Fully fueled backup generators are now in place to supplement commercial power as needed. We are also deploying a COW (Cell on Wheels) to provide coverage in Lahaina, where sites are either restricted due to safety or damaged beyond repair.
Network Update: August 14, 2023
mobile365’s emergency teams continue to restore connectivity in Maui and support first responders, agencies, officials, customers and communities. Over the weekend, they:
- Restored sites in Kaanapali and Haleakalā, with teams continuing to evaluate impacted sites
- Arrived at the Maui Emergency Operations Center to support first responders and agencies
- Extended concessions to all Maui customers through August 21
- Added additional organizations to the text-to-give campaigns
- Provided evacuees and emergency personnel on Oahu with supplies; team traveling to Maui today
mobile365’s Emergency Management team restored sites in Kaanapali and Haleakalā to provide critical connectivity in the area, including covering the FEMA center in Kaanapali. The team deployed generators and VSATs (Very Small Aperture Terminals) — portable satellite solutions — to restore connectivity where the fire damaged local fiber connections and commercial power outages are impacting permanent cell sites.
Additional microwave and satellite equipment is expected to arrive in Maui today, and the team is focused on providing connectivity to Maui’s west coast.

Network Update: August 9, 2023
Our Emergency Management Team is closely monitoring the fire and will be prepared to deploy portable satellite and microwave solutions to restore service in impacted areas when it is safe to do so. Travel in and around the island and impacted areas is restricted at this time, but we’re ready to respond as quickly as possible.
At this time, our cell sites are holding up well during the fires. However, commercial power outages may be impacting service for some customers. As soon as conditions allow, our priority is to deploy teams with portable generators that will bring temporary power back to our sites.
As an alternative, customers who still have a home Wi-Fi connection may be able to use Wi-Fi calling.
